Premium cat food

Trust me, I was the last person in the world to promote "organic" cat food. I am a strong believer of "organic food is complete, utter, bs." The only time I will buy organic is when I absolutely need to have a certain food NOW but the non-organic type is all sold out. So of course there is no way I will be feeding Matisse with premium "natural" food.

Up to now I have been feeding Matisse on Science Diet dry food, which was what the shelter had been feeding her, and they had also given me a free bag. I was planning on gradually switching to a cheaper, more accessible brand of food, such as Iams or Purina after I finished the bag though; Science Diet is already considered a "premium" type of food and is pretty expensive. Reading the ingredients label on Science Diet, however, I found that it is actually not that different from Iams'. So why pay the premium to feed the same type of food?

Then someone recommended I give Natural Balance dry food for Matisse. Natural Balance is considered a "natural premium" cat food, albeit a lower end premium cat food, and is only sold in select pet stores.  It is actually not that more expensive than Iams cat food, and in some places was even cheaper than Science Diet. Honestly, the packaging itself is not that impressive and actually looks really cheap compared to other commercial cat foods. Yet, when I checked the ingredients list, it definitely seemed to have much more high quality meats than what was listed on both Science Diet and Iams. So I decided to give them a try.

And WOW, I AM NOW A BELIEVER OF ORGANIC FOOD. Seriously, I switched the food for two days now, and Matisse' coat is gorgeous! It does not shed half as much as it has before, the coat is thick, luxurious.. it is an absolute pleasure to pet. I mean, seriously, food is supposed to be very important, but who knew that the difference between animal byproducts and animal meat to be this different? Technically, they are both protein right? Apparently, there is a huge difference and now my adorable cutie is even more attractive than ever; who can ever resist to love such a cat. Except when she stares into emptiness as if actually seeing something there. THAT is kind of scary to be honest.

Anyways, excuse me, but I have to stop writing to give Matisse a little nose bump.

Herding cats

The last time I tried walking Matisse on a leash, she tried to claw my eyes out.
This was at least before she started craving for the great outdoors.
She seemed very content being a lazy indoor cat..
Sitting beside my feet when I surfed the net.
But all she does these days is look out the window, day or night
She only used to do that when I was not around, now she does that all the time.
I am wondering whether I should try walking her again?
Unfortunately, I did already return the harness and leash that almost lost my eyesight....
Don't know if I want to go with the whole drama again.
She became very restless lately as well, this little kitty won't tire at all.
Maybe I should decrease her food.

The air force just posted pictures of my brother in the military
I don't know whether I have to laugh at this picture or cry
He looks so stiff and terrified that I want to laugh
But at the same time, it's really really sad
I made a really weird huffing sound out of confusion.. Matisse purred quizzically to that.
Anyways, I should write a letter to this kid at least. Poor dude.

Random Thoughts

1. I feel so disposable at work. Am I that disposable at work? Well, of course I am disposable at work, and it is definitely not the best position to be in.

2. Domino's started a new online ordering system where you can actually track the progress of your pizza order. Actually really cool. Americans are becoming more Asian.

3. Matisse is getting fat. But she's not eating all her food. Is she feasting on cockroaches while I am at work?

4. Speaking of Matisse, she is now answering to her name being called about 70% of the time. Now to convince her that nail clipping is chic....

5. I love cities. I need theatre and museums and culture in my life. I need fiction and creativity. I am going to die otherwise.

In love.. let me blabber a bit

I know it's really stupid to be affected so much by a 5 pound animal
But sincerely, I think I am so in love.
Which is where, I guess, the stereotypical single lady living alone with a cat symbology comes from.
Honestly, I don't really think I need anything else.
How can such a tiny creature be so complex?

Introducing Matisse!

9 months old, altered female calico! So for all of you who followed my rant on getting a pet, here's the fruit of my hard work! And as I have correctly foreseen, who cares what you officially name a cat; as of now, the proper name to call her is my baby.

I have to admit, the shelter people tricked me though. This is no adult cat. Matisse is technically no longer a kitten anymore and is way past her hyperactive stage, but I cannot say she is fully adult. For one thing, she is way to affectionate to be fully adult. I had to give up reading the Wall Street Journal this morning because she sat on the paper and refused to move! She absolutely loves being petted, but she kneads when she pets--which is cute of course, but her claws are too sharp. I should ask the vet to trim them for me when I take her today.

The shelter I went to adopt her tells the potential adopter why the animal was given up by the previous owner. For Matisse, she was given up because she was "too loud." She really does have this giant purr, but other then that, she was actually much too quiet for my comfort that I had to tie a bell around her neck. The problem was, she kept purring next to my bed whenever I tried to go to sleep but was too scared to climb up onto the bed. Last night I finally turned on the lights, picked her up, and propped her on my bed... where she curled up next to my feet and went to sleep quietly.
The next morning, however, I woke up, forgot I had the cat, was sitting up with no lights on. The cat of course could see through the dark and saw that I was up, starting brushing on my legs. I was so startled that I jolted my leg back, and this offended Matisse so much that she hided under the bed all morning until I brought her water and breakfast.
I mean, how cute is that.
